Sometimes (or maybe often?) the interviewer will try to touch subjects or angles for which we don’t have a good counter frame or response. When we get there, instead of trying to fight with that frame, just switch to another topic altogether. It can be a tangentially related topic, or a completely different topic. Just switch, and the interviewer kind of has to keep the conversation going, After a minute or two, the interviewer might forget what topic they tried to steer you into, and the listeners will forget much sooner.

Of course switching will be a bit abrupt, so it helps to insert some transitional expression just keep the appearances:
기자: 워녹 후보는 라이트 목사의 “갓 댐 아메리카” 발언에 대해 입장을 밝히고 있지 않는데요, 이 논란에 대해 한인 기독교인들이 알아야 할 점이 있을까요?
나: 그건 매우 중요한 주제인 것 같아요. 아다시피 워녹 후보는 여러번.. 미국 국민들이 마주하고 있는 건강보험 위기에 대해 여러번에 걸쳐 입장을 밝힌 바 있습니다.아다시피 의료보험을 가지고 있는 사람들 중에서도 50% 이상이 보험의 여러가지 제한 때문에 필요한 치료를 못 받거나 미루다가 더 악화되는 사례가 나오고 있습니다. 그래서 건강 같이 행복추구권의 근간이 되는 부분에 대해서는 한국처럼 정부 차원에서 책임지고 양질의 의료보험에 가입 할 수 있도록 보장해야 한다는 입장을 가지고 있습니다. 아다시피 전 국민들이 의료보험에 가입하게 되면 여러가지 장점이 있는데요 하나는 의료비가 줄어들고, 공화당에서 pre-existing condition 을 보장하느니 하지만 그건 정부 보험 제도에서만 가능한.. blabla..

나: 네, 널리 알려져있다시피 워녹 후보는 아틀란타 침례교회의 5대 목사님입니다. 마틴루터킹 목사의 아버님이 이 교회에서 목회를 하셨고, 마틴루터킹 목사님도 여기서 유아세례를 받았지요. 그래서 그 전통을 이어받아 워녹목사님도 인종차별 철폐와 민권의 중요성을 강조하고 있습니다. 지난 2020년 대선 시즌에도 흑인과 소수민족이 받아온 인종차별을 겪었기 때문에 우리 같은 소수자들의 입장에서 사안을 잘 공감할 수 있다는 점을 전달했습니다. blabla..
The reporter could come back to the same question maybe once, but they can’t keep on hammering a question on a live show. That would ruin their show. They need to move on and keep the show “flowing”.

To the interviewer, and maybe to listener who are paying very close attention, the interview can come across as detached and clearly trying to avoid the topics. They could come off from the interview thinking that we are dumb, that we didn’t understand the question, etc. But the vast majority of the listeners are only paying light attention to the show. They have it on and are driving, doing chores, studying. And as long as the show just flows, they will follow the flow of the conversation. And our task will be done by having avoided a dangerous frame for the vast majority of voters.

This technique will not work for newspapers, but for live TV and Radio, it should work well.

To do this, it will be helpful to prepare a few core topics that you can pull off whenver you want to steer the topic to something else.
